Injuries to participants in sporting or athletic events are often excluded, and what constitutes a "Sporting" or "Athletic" event may not be what you think. If the injury is catastrophic enough or there is a fatality, the definition can include things you might not consider exactly athletic.   Some programs offer optional accident/medical insurance for participants and/or spectators.  That insurance does not necessarily, however, relieve you of potential liability for injuries or death. Much depends on the legal environment in your particular state.
